Installing SwizzinIRC

SwizzinIRC is a Windows application. It is available in two forms: an installer and a portable executable. Both are 64-bit and need no administrator rights.

  • Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • The Microsoft WebView2 runtime, which is included with Windows 11.
Installer Portable
File name SwizzinIRC-<version>-setup.exe SwizzinIRC-<version>-portable.exe
Installs program files Yes, for the current user only No
Administrator rights Not required Not required
Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts Created Not created
Listed under Windows Installed apps Yes No
Settings folder %APPDATA%\com.swizards.swizzinirc %APPDATA%\com.swizards.swizzinirc

Compute the SHA-256 checksum of the file in PowerShell:

Terminal window
Get-FileHash .\SwizzinIRC-<version>-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

Compare the Hash value with the checksum on the download page. If they differ, delete the file and do not run it.

Prerelease builds are not code-signed. The download page states whether a given build is signed.

  1. Download the installer from the download page and verify its checksum.
  2. Run SwizzinIRC-<version>-setup.exe. It installs for the current user only.
  3. Start SwizzinIRC from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut.

To install without the wizard, run the installer with the /S option:

Terminal window
.\SwizzinIRC-<version>-setup.exe /S

The installer exits with code 0 on success.

Download the portable executable, verify its checksum, and run it from any folder. Nothing is installed.

Remove SwizzinIRC from Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Uninstalling removes the program files, the install folder, the Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts, and the Installed apps entry.

Your settings folder is not removed. Delete %APPDATA%\com.swizards.swizzinirc yourself if you want to remove your profiles, aliases, themes, scripts and preferences.

Settings are stored per user in:

%APPDATA%\com.swizards.swizzinirc\

This folder holds server profiles, aliases, themes, scripts and preferences. Passwords are not stored in the profile files. The installed and portable builds use the same folder.

To keep all data beside the portable executable instead, create an empty file named portable.flag in the same folder as the executable. SwizzinIRC then uses a SwizzinIRC-data folder beside it. The flag is read when the program starts. Existing data is not moved or copied when you add or remove the flag.

In SwizzinIRC, Appearance → Import & folder shows the data folder currently in use.
