Four different secrets

Passwords travel to ZNC inside your TLS connection. The manager refuses to send a new ZNC password over an unencrypted profile. Passwords never appear in chat windows, command recall, the profile file, reports or error messages.
ZNC echoes some secrets back in its replies. Those replies are captured and discarded by the hidden session, and the same commands typed by hand are recognised as authentication and are never shown or recalled.
You cannot read ZNC’s stored passwords back from ZNC. Changing your ZNC password (Account tab) changes it on ZNC and, if that succeeded, updates the stored password of this profile. Other profiles that use the same ZNC password must be updated separately. A password that was already sent cannot be recalled.
Troubleshooting

| “Could not sign in to ZNC for management” | Wrong password, a certificate that is not trusted (give the profile a CA file for a private ZNC), or a login limit on ZNC. The message includes the connection problem |
| “controlpanel module is not loaded” | Use Enable ZNC management (one attempt), or ask your ZNC administrator |
| “ZNC denied this” | Your ZNC account lacks the permission (for example DenySetNetwork or DenyLoadMod) |
| “network limit is reached” | Delete an unused network, or ask an administrator to raise MaxNetworks |
| “It already exists” | The network is already on ZNC. Choose Use it or Update it |
| Uncertain steps | ZNC answered unclearly or slowly, for example while busy connecting upstream. Reopen the network, check it, and retry |
| Manager unavailable for a ZNC server | The server did not advertise ZNC capabilities, the profile has no ZNC login, or it is not connected. The Servers menu shows the reason |
Playback and your other clients
Section titled “Playback and your other clients”Playback that repeats is shown once. Messages sent from your other clients appear as yours (the znc.in/self-message capability).
