ZNC Manager: networks and adding a network
Managing a network
Section titled “Managing a network”Select a network in the manager to see and change:
- Identity on ZNC: nick, alternative nick, ident and real name.
- Upstream servers: add (host, port, TLS, optional server password) or remove.
- Channels saved on ZNC: the autojoin configuration, not the channels you happen to have open in SwizzinIRC. Add with an optional key, remove, detach or attach. Keys are masked; Show reveals one and Hide removes it from the page again.
- Reconnect or disconnect ZNC’s upstream connection, or Delete network…. Deleting asks for confirmation, removes the network from ZNC, and keeps any local profile.
- Modules tab: modules loaded for you and for the selected network, and the ones ZNC offers. Load or unload what your account is allowed to. Nothing is enabled automatically and no module is installed.
- Account tab: change your ZNC password.
Edits apply when you press the button next to the field and are read back from ZNC afterwards, so what you see is what ZNC has.
Local-only settings (profile name, auto-connect) live in the server profile. ZNC-side settings live in the manager. Nothing is synchronised silently in either direction.
Adding a network
Section titled “Adding a network”Choose Servers → Add network… and Through a ZNC bouncer (pick which ZNC if you have several). Fill in:
- network name, IRC server and port, TLS
- nickname, alternative nickname, username, real name
- optional server password
- optional SASL account and password
- optional channels with keys, one per line (
#chanor#chan key) - a local profile name, and whether to connect when ready
On Create network, SwizzinIRC:
- checks that management works and which networks already exist;
- creates the network on ZNC, sets its identity, adds the server, adds channels and keys, and sets up ZNC’s
saslmodule if you gave SASL credentials; - verifies what it can observe;
- creates the matching local profile, without duplicating an existing one;
- optionally connects it.
Every step is listed with its own result: ok, skipped, failed or uncertain.
Repeating safely
Section titled “Repeating safely”- The network already exists: nothing is changed until you choose Use it (create only the missing local profile), Update it (apply these settings; servers already present are not duplicated), or cancel.
- A step failed part-way: the report shows which steps succeeded. Retry the failed steps continues without redoing finished work. Remove the network this run created is offered only for a network that run created, and asks for confirmation.
- A step is uncertain: ZNC did not answer in time or in a recognisable way. Check the network in the manager, then retry.
- If ZNC refused the first change (no permission, network limit), no local profile is created.
Networks that already existed on ZNC appear in the manager automatically. Add to SwizzinIRC creates only the local profile and does not modify the ZNC network.
Connecting through ZNC the first time
Section titled “Connecting through ZNC the first time”In M4.1 and later, Add network → Through a ZNC bouncer walks you through connecting to your ZNC the first time. The address is your ZNC’s, the user name is your ZNC account, and the password is your ZNC password. If ZNC refuses the login, the message says what was sent and what to check.
