Coming from mIRC

This page lists the differences you are most likely to notice.

  • SwizzScript is Luau, not the mIRC scripting language. Only a small subset of .mrc scripts is translated; see mIRC compatibility.
  • Imported scripts always start off and need your approval.
  • There are no user levels. The level in an on event must be *.
  • Scripts have no file, program or socket access.
  • Only a closed syntax exists: no evaluation, no $identifier(...) call syntax, no variables, events or timers inside aliases.
  • mIRC runs a | typed inside an argument as a new command. SwizzinIRC does not; a typed | is text.
  • Every alias line must start with a command. Use /say text to send text.
  • $nick is not available in aliases because it has no unambiguous meaning for typed input.
  • Aliases are global. Per-script (-l) scoping is not modelled.
  • An enabled alias of the same name wins over a built-in command, except the protected commands quote, server, quit, connect, disconnect and alias. /!name runs the built-in.
  • Alias commands go through the same outbound rate limit as typed ones, so a long alias takes time to finish.

In Aliases → Import / Export, paste mIRC-style alias text and choose Review import. Tick what you want, then Import selected. Nothing runs and nothing changes until the last click. Accepted shapes include alias name command …, one-line and multi-line alias name { … } blocks, and the name /command … form.

Allowed commands in imported aliases: join, part, nick, msg, notice, me, say, query, whois and help, plus other aliases.

Rejected, with the reason shown for each alias: programs, DLLs, sockets, files, timers, raw or connection commands, logic and variables, unsupported identifiers, and the silent . prefix.

SwizzinIRC never reads another client’s installation or settings.

Aliases → Import / Export shows your aliases as SwizzinIRC JSON or as mIRC-style text for you to copy.
